HSA/FSA FAQS

What is an HSA/FSA account?
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are tax-free accounts that can be used to pay for qualified health expenses. These accounts are usually set up and managed by an HSA or FSA administrator, and you should have access to said HSA/FSA administrator through your employer (ask your HR department!).HSAs are typically associated with a high-deductible health plan, and funds do not expire. FSAs are independent of your health plan, and funds elections occur in October-November each year for the following calendar year. FSA funds expire every calendar year.Unfortunately, HSAs and FSAs are not available outside of the US, and self-employed individuals (who do not have an HSA from a previous employment) do not qualify for HSAs or FSAs.
What is TrueMed?
Truemed partners with health-focused-fo brands to enable qualified customers to use pre-tax HSA/FSA funds on health and wellness purchases. Truemed partners with a network of medical practitioners who can issue Letters of Medical Necessity to qualifying customers, thereby allowing customers to spend pre-tax HSA/FSA funds on medically-necessary products. For more information, please send an email to support@truemed.com.
When should I use my HSA/FSA dollars?
You can use your HSA/FSA dollars all year long. However, FSA dollars expire at the end of the year, and unused funds may not roll over into the next year. Make sure to spend the rest of your FSA dollars before December 31 — use it, so you don’t lose it!
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?
In order to determine whether certain products or services are legitimate expenses for treating, mitigating, or preventing a diagnosed medical condition, HSA/FSA plan administrators often require a letter from a licensed practitioner. This letter is called a “Letter of Medical Necessity.”
How long does it take for me to receive my Letter of Medical Necessity?
If you qualify, generally it takes 2-5 hours; in some cases up to 24 hours. In some cases, Truemed’s provider team will require additional time to issue a letter of medical necessity based on the needs associated with an individual qualification survey. If you aren’t seeing your letter in your inbox, check spam, then reach out to us at support@truemed.com for help.
Are there fees associated with using Truemed’s services?
There is no cost to you.
I don’t have an HSA/FSA. Can I still benefit from Truemed?
Unfortunately, Truemed’s services are for individuals who have HSA or FSA accounts (or plan to fund one during open enrollment). We encourage you to ask your employer about information on your HSA or FSA!
What happens if my HSA/FSA claim is denied by TrueMed?
If you need additional help please reach out directly to Truemed at support@truemed.com
Can I apply my HSA/FSA funds to past purchases after qualifying for a Letter of Medical Necessity with Truemed?
No. You can’t apply your HSA/FSA funds to past Daily Harvest purchases. Please contact your HSA or FSA administrator directly to learn more about your eligibility for reimbursement.
What if I don’t have my HSA/FSA Card? Can I use a credit or debit card?
Yes. If you’d like to use your regular credit card, simply select that in Truemed checkout. After your purchase, if qualified, Truemed will email you instructions on how to submit the receipt to your HSA/FSA administrator for reimbursement along with your Letter of Medical Necessity. For any questions, please email support@truemed.com.
What if I don't have enough funds in my account to cover the whole purchase?
If your HSA/FSA doesn't cover the full amount of your purchase due to insufficient funds, you can cover the remaining balance with a personal card. Simply select "Split pay with HSA/FSA and another card" at the payment screen after you've completed the survey
