Why Almonds Make the Perfect Good-For-You Snack

Almonds are a legit nutrient-dense food. A 1-ounce serving of almond packs 6 grams of protein, 3.5 grams of fiber and 14 grams of fat, most of which is heart-healthy monounsaturated fat known to help in lowering cholesterol.
Almonds are also an excellent source of vitamin E, copper, and manganese -- all nutrients with antioxidant functions (aka great at keeping cells healthy) -- and a good source of magnesium, a mineral needed for metabolism.

Like other plant foods, almonds also contain unique plant compounds called phytochemicals that may offer health benefits. Almonds are packed with compounds called flavonoids, which have anti-inflammatory properties and can act as antioxidants in the body.
That’s some serious nutrition power in just one tiny nut.
There’s lots of scientific research backing up the health benefits of almonds. Studies suggest eating almonds may help to lower cholesterol and blood sugar and that they may help squash inflammation in the body.
As for the benefits of almonds as a snack, one study found having almonds as a mid-morning snack helped in managing appetite and preventing overeating the rest of the day. Another study found snacking on almonds helps with blood flow and in lowering LDL (aka “bad”) cholesterol. The best part? You can easily add almonds and other heart healthy meals to your diet easily with Daily Harvest.
